INFORMATICS

Celera's scientific platforms produce tremendous volumes of data on a daily basis. This data is enormously diverse, including DNA sequences, mass spectrometry spectra, real-time PCR curves, and more. The Informatics challenge is to organize this data and convert it into knowledge, facilitating the discovery of new diagnostic and therapeutic avenues to manage human health.

Informatics provides complete end-to-end support for proteomics, and every step in the discovery effort is supported with data capture, processing, and storage. Informatics also provides for multi-tiered analysis at the end of the experiment.

  1. Celera’s laboratory information management system makes it possible to track clinical information about the donor, along with data accumulated during sample processing.  This ensures that the scientific conclusions that result from these experiments take into account the full richness of the available data..

  2. Mass spectrometry data is captured, scaled, and aligned to identify salient differences in the protein composition of different samples.

  3. Candidate targets identified by mass spectrometry are subjected to additional experiments to validate their role in the disease process, or to establish their diagnostic utility. This validation process incorporates a diversity of techniques, including real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, and RNAi. Informatics facilitates the integration of these diverse data types to help scientists draw the most complete and accurate conclusions

  4. Informatics facilitates the integration of these diverse data types to help scientists draw the most complete and accurate conclusions. Visualization tools, bioinformatics analyses, and searches of public and commercial databases help round out the scientific process.
