Celera has selected cancer as an initial disease area for focusing the proteomic strategy. Cancer is a broad classification of many similar disease with the one common feature of uncontrolled cell growth. Celera currently has research programs in pancreatic, lung, colon, breast, renal, prostate cancers, melanoma and hepatocellular cancers. Research programs are planned for esophageal and ovarian and lymphoma/leukemias. We are identifying proteins that are expressed differently on the tumor than on the normal tissue. This can provide a therapeutic and diagnostic opportunity based on the differential expression.
