Kathy Ordoņez is president of Celera, a diagnostics company with powerful discovery platforms dedicated to the practice of targeted medicine, and located in Rockville, MD and Alameda, CA. Celera is focused on discovery, development, and commercialization of diagnostic products as well as leveraging its proteomic, bioinformatic, and genomic capabilities to identify and validate drug targets, and is also seeking to advance therapeutic antibody and selected small molecule drug programs in collaboration with global technology and market leaders. Kathy is also a senior vice president of Applera Corporation, the parent company for Celera and Applied Biosystems, and is a member of the companys management Executive Committee. Prior to joining Applera in December of 2000, Kathy worked for fifteen years for Hoffmann La-Roche, a Swiss health care company. While at Roche, Kathy oversaw the formation of Roche Molecular Systems, where she served as president and Chief Executive Officer for nine years, and led the application of polymerase chain reaction technology to the diagnostic, research and forensic fields. She was also president of Roche Diagnostics Systems, and held a number of other business and managerial positions within Roche. Before joining Roche, Kathy held several marketing and scientific positions in Baker Instruments, a Division of Richardson-Vicks, and Union Carbide Corporation. This included a three-year assignment in the Far East. Kathy holds a B.A. degree in chemistry and an honorary Doctorate of Sciences from Hartwick College in Oneonta NY. She serves on the Board of AdvaMed.
