Celera has discovered genetic variants involved in multiple autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) and psoriasis. Although individuals who carry risk variants in several of the genes associated with rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis are at substantially increased risk, Celera believes these are not yet medically useful in managing the disease. We plan to collaborate with pharmaceutical companies to investigate the potential utility of certain variants in predicting the efficacy of new therapies for an autoimmune disease.
